Understanding What Can Impact Tree Removal Cost in Land Clearance Projects
Trees contribute to the beauty of our landscapes, but removal is often necessary to clear the way for new projects or to improve the safety of your land. Understanding tree removal cost becomes crucial as most acreages operate within a stringent budget. Here, we'll explore the various factors that determine the price of tree removal for large land clearance projects, giving you the knowledge you need for a successful project.
Factors that Determine Tree Removal Cost in Land Clearance
Mulching and tree removal cost can vary widely based on several factors. Here are the primary considerations influencing the overall expense:
Tree Size
The size and scale of the individual trees on your land will determine the time - and therefore cost - of a project. It may seem small, but even the most incremental changes to tree diameter greatly alter the mulching and cutting time.
Small Trees: Expect a lower tree removal cost for acreages containing small trees with a less extensive root system and diameters. These trees can be efficiently mulched to make a nutrient-rich material for your land. A small tree is classified as having a diameter of 100 - 150 mm.
Medium Trees: As diameter size increases, so does the time taken to remove and clear wooded land using a mulcher. A medium-sized tree is classified as having a 200 - 250 mm diameter.
Large Trees: Projects that feature land with large trees will generally be more complex and time-consuming. Trees with larger diameters cannot be felled using a traditional mulcher and must be cut down before mulching begins. You also have the option of keeping the larger trees to cut into firewood, and having the stump removed for complete land clearance. Large trees are classified as being anything over 400 mm in diameter.
Tree Type
The type of tree influences the difficulty of removal and hardwood trees, such as hardwood gums, require more effort and time for removal, contributing to higher overall project costs. Pine trees and even eucalyptus are generally less dense and therefore easier to mulch.
Location
Not all trees will be located on easy-to-reach areas of your land. Trees near structures, power lines, or other obstacles may require careful dismantling, affecting tree removal cost. Ease of access for equipment and personnel also plays a role and limited access areas may require more time and effort.
Number Of Acres To Be Cleared
The amount of acres you want cleared will determine the cost of your clearance projects. Although our tree mulcher is highly efficient, large-scale forestry mulching will of course be more time-consuming, whereas smaller-scale acreages of 3 - 5 acres can usually be cleared quickly and efficiently.
Extra Services
Tree removal is just one service that you may opt for when carrying out land clearing procedures, and it is often recommended to carry out multiple projects at once to make operations more efficient. Other services, such as stump removal or cutting up larger trees for firewood, will add additional cost to your overall project.
Permit Requirements
Some areas, such as historical areas, protected natural zones, and municipalities, may require permits for tree removal to take place. Checking and obtaining necessary permits may impact the overall cost but it is absolutely crucial to stay in-line with local and state regulations. As a general rule of thumb, you are legally allowed to clear 1 hectare per year per property, or an amount of timber that isn’t in excess of 100 tonnes (whichever is the lesser). There are exemptions of course, but this is the current general ruling as per the Forest Practises Regulations 2017.
